Our branch had another Food Competition last week. All of the members and missionaries formed teams to make the best dishes. Elder Zhao and I debated buying pizza and calling it good, but we actually ended up making several dishes to compete. I made a sandwich and added a homemade spicy chili sauce, painfully hot. Good fun. We definitely didn't win, we had a good turnout and that's what counts. Lots of friends coming together.
A word on Chinese and spicy food. Every province in China has its own cuisine and its own spicy-ness. My trainer, Elder Hu, is from Sichuan - arguably the province with the hottest food. Or Hunan, also very spicy. Shanghai, on the other hand, has very similar taste to Americans and prefer sweeter food. When I got here, Elder Hu threw me straight into the deep end. Suffered a little bit. I've improved a lot. What may have been a problem at the beginning of the mission is now no longer a concern.
Today was P Day. We went to Costco. Hands down one of the best P Days since coming on the mission. We bought lots of groceries and ate pizza with the city Elders and zone leaders. I was honestly pretty pumped from the start, and it was a lot more fun than I expected. Definitely will be going back again.
We're having a lot of fun over here. Elder Zhao is the man. We have a baptism this Saturday and we're very excited. Very proud of Chichi and all of her progress. We'll have good pictures next week for sure.
Have a great week!
